A controversial casino development in Slidell is getting an official name by its ownership group.

On Thursday, Peninsula Pacific Entertainment announced the casino will be called the Camellia Bay Resort and Casino if voters approve a referendum in November.

PPE says Kimberly Frady, a nurse from Slidell, won a $5,000 prize for picking the name.

The company is hoping to build the new resort near I-10 at the foot of the Twin Span but has met opposition from locals who say it will bring crime to the area.
