A Mardi Gras-style garbage pickup starts today to get rid of the trash that's been cluttering up New Orleans since Hurricane Ida.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced on Thursday her administration is organizing a number of city departments to clean up the streets, "much like we do during Mardi Gras."
Cantrell said ten city crews will be out with heavy equipment and police to assist with trash pickup.
"Operation Mardi Gras" gets underway today and will collect solid wastes only.
The New Orleans City Council held a special public works meeting Friday after the operation was announced. Fox 8's Rilwan Balogun live-tweeted the back-and-forth between councilmembers and city officials on the pickup delays.
