The St. Tammany Parish government is expanding its rental assistance program to cover utility bills for eligible renters.
Parish President Mike Cooper says the Grants Department figured out how to expand the program to help residents keep the lights turned on.
The program will use funds from the federal CARES Act to help renters pay their utility bills.
The parish launched the program in April of this year and has distributed more than $2 million to over 350 parish residents.
