New Orleans City Council Jared Brossett is proposing a 50% cut in the city's garbage pickup fees.

The sanitation fee for November is already waived because of persistent problems in trash pickup that started before Hurricane Ida, but got worse afterward.

Brossett says the one-time waiver isn't enough now that regular trash collection is being reduced to once a week.

Brossett plans to introduce an ordinance cutting sanitation fees in half as the city prepares to sign a new garbage contract this fall.
