Jefferson Parish officials are conducting a safety study of whole-house generators following reports of carbon monoxide inside homes after Hurricane Ida.
The storm knocked out the power to more than a million people in the greater New Orleans area, and many electric customers turned to generators.
Some of them said their carbon monoxide detectors were soon going off, even though contractors had followed the instruction manuals to install the generators, and parish officials said they were up to code.
