Irvin Mayfield and his business partner Ronald Markham are both off to federal prison for 18 months.

A judge sentenced them Wednesday, nearly a year after the musicians pleaded guilty to defrauding the New Orleans Public Library Foundation of more than a million dollars.

The judge also ordered them to repay more than a million dollars in restitution and teach 500 hours of student music lessons.

Mayfield is a 43-year-old Grammy-winning trumpeter who has promoted tourism in New Orleans and had a high profile in the city's recovery from Katrina.

He and Markham must report to prison by January 5.
