Sentencing is in February for a Kenner man who pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday for an airline baggage scam.

Federal officials say 31-year-old Pernell Jones Jr. was charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud.

Starting around 2015, Jones took flights on commercial carriers under fake names using phony ID. On arrival at his destination, he would falsely claim his baggage was lost.

He and his conspirators filed more than 180 false claims and bilked the airlines out of more than $300,000.

When he was arrested at a Dallas airport in 2018, Jones had dozens of fake driver's licenses on him.
