Gov. John Bel Edwards says school mask mandates are a good idea in the midst of the omicron surge.

Masks aren't mandated by the state, but some schools still require them.

Speaking Thursday about the state's response to the pandemic, Edwards described campus mask mandates as "more than appropriate."

A fourth-grade student at University Lab School received a three-day suspension this week for refusing to wear a mask in class.

Edwards says masks are the best protection for kids, other than vaccines.
