State health officials say they hope the omicron variant is nearing its peak in Louisiana, but so far the peak hasn't arrived yet.
Gov. John Bel Edwards held a news conference in Baton Rouge on Thursday to discuss the state's response.
Edwards said he isn't planning new mitigation efforts despite record numbers of new cases and ongoing increases in the number of patients hospitalized.
Dr. Joseph Kanter of the Louisiana Department of Health joined Edwards in reminding residents to get vaccines and boosters and to wear masks.
