The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is putting a dollar value on recent hurricane damage to the state's fishing industry.

A study by the department says Hurricanes Laura, Delta, Zeta, and Ida resulted in $579 million in losses to the industry in 2020 and 2021.

The study released Thursday includes damage to infrastructure including fishing vessels, biological resources such as oysters and fish, and sales revenues.

The study projects ongoing financial losses that are continuing into this year.
