New Orleans city leaders are trying to get a handle on the crime wave that's gripping the city.

The City Council held a special meeting Monday morning to discuss ways to deal with the ongoing violence.

There are more carjackings, armed robberies, shootings and homicides compared to this time last year, as well as 2020 and 2019.

Rafael Goyeneche, president of the Metropolitan Crime Commission, says courts release offenders on reduced bond within days.

NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson will address the city council on Thursday.
