U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has a few words for New Orleans as the omicron surge fades and Mardi Gras approaches.

Murthy says the numbers are encouraging lately, but masks, boosters, and vaccinations are still the way to go.

He noted that the crowds of tens of thousands of people watching the parades will make social distancing difficult.

The surgeon general advised that immunocompromised people may have to make different decisions about large crowds than other people do.
