Proposed La. Redistricting Plan Retains Only One Majority-Minority District

Democrats in the state capital are grumbling over the state's proposed redistricting plan.

On Thursday, the state House of Representatives approved the proposed plan to redraw the state's six congressional districts that still includes only one majority-black district.

Several proposed amendments to create a second majority-black district were defeated.

HB1 makes few proposed changes to existing district boundaries.

Black Democrats and civil rights groups claim the proposal violates the federal Voting Rights Act.
