Louisiana is agreeing to pay $100 million in a lawsuit over flooding in the Baton Rouge area almost 40 years ago.

The flood was enabled by poorly constructed barriers on Interstate 12.

The Louisiana Supreme Court earlier ruled the state owed almost $360 million but the state reached a settlement with lawyers for nearly 1,200 residents whose homes and businesses flooded near the Tangipahoa River.

About a third of the plaintiffs have died since the suit was filed. Their part of the settlement will go to their heirs.
