The state legislature is considering a bill requiring the parent or guardian of a juvenile found guilty of a crime to pay restitution to the victims.

Sen. Jimmy Harris, a New Orleans Democrat, is the author of SB 370.

The bill states that a parent or guardian of a juvenile convicted for a crime could be required to pay for restitution or any rehab programs ordered by the court.

A committee in the Louisiana House passed the bill on Tuesday.
