A group of 16 lawmakers are urging Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards to veto a pro-life bill they characterize as "draconian."

Senate Bill 342 bans most abortions in the state and provides prison terms and fines for doctors who perform them.

The 16 state representatives sent a letter to the governor on Wednesday, asking him to veto the bill.

Louisiana already has a "trigger law" that will outlaw most abortions if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade. The supporters of SB342 claim the bill simply clarifies the law.
