Mayor LaToya Cantrell and Sheriff Susan Hutson are trying to sort out manpower shortage problems at the sheriff's office.

After two jail inmates died over the weekend, Hutson pulled deputies from security details at the parish courthouse to work at the jail.

Jury trials were shut down for 24 hours as a result, until a partial staffing of the courthouse with deputies allowed trials to resume on Tuesday.

Cantrell and Hutson met on Tuesday for about half an hour to figure out a new staffing plan that won't disrupt criminal court proceedings.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's office identified the two men who died at the jail as Philip Soublet, Jr. and Chad Neyland.

Soublet, who was awaiting trial for second-degree murder, died from blunt force trauma he suffered in a fight on Friday night involving four inmates.

Neyland, who was jailed for theft and possession of oxycodone and drug paraphernalia, jumped from a balcony on Sunday.
