Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams insists he won't prosecute women who seek abortions or doctors who perform them.

Williams says his office already has its hands full prosecuting a backlog of murder, manslaughter and armed robbery cases.

He says prosecuting abortion cases would be a waste of the city's limited resources.

Under Louisiana law, district attorneys have considerable discretion over which cases to prosecute.

Williams himself goes on trial next month for ten counts of income tax fraud.
