Several Louisiana natives are named as upcoming recipients of the Carnegie medal, the highest honor for civilian heroism.

One honoree is 21-year-old LSU student Layne Gravois, who died in the spring as he tried to rescue two children being swept away from a Florida beach.

Also to be honored are Brandon Melancon of Church Point and Daniel Cook of Alexandria, who pulled a driver out of his burning truck after an accident in Derry in 2020.
