New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is bullish about fighting crime and hiring police officers for the city.

Cantrell and City Councilman Oliver Thomas held a public safety town hall meeting Monday night, the first in a planned series that Cantrell and council members will host.

Cantrell pointed out that the NOPD made nearly 500 felony arrests in June.

She said the Louisiana Attorney General's office had approved her bonus plan for police recruitment and retention.
