Mayor LaToya Cantrell, New Orleans Police, and local school officials are working to make sure students are showing up to class.

During a meeting this week, NOPD leaders promised to restore the department's efforts to enforce truancy laws this year.

It would be the first time since the start of the pandemic that the department would crack down on truancy.

Consistent school absenteeism has spiraled out of control since students have returned to the classroom after prolonged remote learning.
