State health officials say Louisiana hasn't received a sufficient amount of monkeypox vaccine.

An additional 7,200 doses are scheduled to come to the state in the weeks ahead.

That won't be nearly enough to cover most of the demographic most vulnerable to monkeypox, which is gay men.

The New Orleans gay community participates in celebrations such as Pride Month in June and Southern Decadence on Labor Day weekend.

The Louisiana Department of Health says 1,200 New Orleans area residents have been inoculated so far.
