A disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico continued to move towards a landfall along the east coast of Mexico Saturday.
"The chances of the disturbance becoming a tropical cyclone appear to be decreasing," said forecasters at the National Hurricane Center. "Regardless of the system's status, the overall impacts are expected to be the same. Winds to tropical storm force and heavy rains are expected to spread across northeastern Mexico and southern Texas later today and continue into Sunday. After the system moves inland, quick weakening is expected and the disturbance is forecast to dissipate by Sunday night over southern Texas."
Louisiana will not see direct impacts from this system. Remnant moisture from the disturbance may increase rain chances in our area next week.
In the Atlantic, a tropical wave is expected to move off the African coast sometime on Saturday.
"Environmental conditions are expected to be marginally conducive for gradual development of this system while it moves west-northwestward to northwestward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic during the early to middle part of next week," said the NHC.
