MCC: 584 People Shot In New Orleans This Year, 208 Fatally

The Metropolitan Crime Commission says 584 people have been shot in New Orleans this year, and 208 of them have died.

Rafael Goyeneche, president of the commission, says shootings in the city are up 100 percent since 2019, and homicides are up 140 percent.

Goyeneche says the 584 victims were shot in a total of 498 shootings.

The high rate of violent crime in the city is one of the main issues in the current effort to recall Mayor LaToya Cantrell.
