Development Chances High In Southwest Gulf of Mexico

Development chances continue to rise for an area of disturbed weather over the Bay of Campeche.

"Satellite-derived surface winds indicate that the area of low pressure over the Bay of Campeche is becoming better defined," the National Hurricane Center said Tuesday afternoon. "Environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for further development, and a tropical depression or tropical storm is likely to form within the next day or so while the system moves slowly northwestward over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico."

No local impacts are expected from the system outside of higher rain chances mid-week from associated moisture being pulled northward.

The system is eventually expected to move inland over Mexico. The NHC says heavy rainfall is expected over parts of southern Mexico over the next few days.
