Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser will not be in the running for governor later this year.
Nungesser made the announcement on Monday, stating that he will instead run for re-election to his current position.
Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry and State Treasurer John Shroder are the only major candidates in the race so far. Both of them are Republicans.
The only Democrat considering a run is Louisiana DOTD Secretary Dr. Shawn Wilson.
Democratic incumbent Governor John Bel Edwards is term-limited and can't run again.
