The House Majority Leader says the controversy surrounding newly-elected Congressman George Santos is being handled "internally."

Louisiana's Steve Scalise was asked whether Santos should be a member of Congress after admitting to lying about his background on the campaign trail.

He said Republican leaders will have to sit down and discuss the issues with Santos.

Democratic lawmakers have requested an ethics investigation into Santos.

House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar said Santos was only seated to give Kevin McCarthy the votes to clinch the Speakership, adding McCarty owns Santos "lock, stock and barrel."
