Mayor LaToya Cantrell says the crime rate in New Orleans is on the way down and she's not worried about the recall effort against her.

She made the claims on Sunday to a national TV audience on CBS's Face The Nation.

Cantrell appeared on the show along with several other mayors who were in Washington, D.C., for the United States Conference of Mayors that ended Friday.

Cantrell claimed the crime rate in New Orleans is "moving in the right direction," and the recall will fail because city residents prefer "continuity in leadership."

Organizers of the effort to recall Cantrell say they still need 15,000 signatures by February 22.
