Mayor LaToya Cantrell says violent crime is trending down in New Orleans.

Cantrell on Wednesday pointed out there were fewer armed robberies, carjackings, and homicides last month compared to January of last year.

The Metropolitan Crime Commission says there have been 25 homicides, 20 carjackings, and 45 robberies in New Orleans since the start of 2023.

Car thefts are a different matter with NOPD reporting that more than 700 cars were stolen last month, up from 334 in January 2022.
