Resignation Of La. DOTD's Wilson Fuels Speculation About Run For Governor

The resignation of the head of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is leading to more speculation that he may run for governor this year.

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced on Wednesday that DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson will retire on March 4.

“Dr. Shawn Wilson has been the most effective DOTD secretary in state history,” said Edwards, who appointed Wilson to the post in January 2016.

Wilson has been hinting for months at a possible run for governor, but hasn't officially declared himself a candidate.

So far he says he's "giving it some thought."

He would be the first Democrat to enter the race.
