Edwards Presents His Final Budget Proposal As Governor

Gov. John Bel Edwards proposed budget for the coming fiscal year is now on the table.

Edwards presented his last budget as governor to state legislators on Friday.

The spending plan calls for an outlay of nearly $46 billion, about $460 million less than the previous year's budget.

Edwards wants lawmakers to pass a $3,000 raise for teachers, as well as $100 a month in supplemental pay for firefighters, police, and deputies.

Edwards also wants to raise the minimum wage for the first time in 15 years.

The 2023 Regular Legislative Session starts on April 10.
