The Louisiana Education Department is sponsoring statewide active shooter training for early childhood educators.

The first session was held on Tuesday evening in Shreveport.

The idea is to train the workforce that cares for children age five and under so they'll know how to keep kids safe in an emergency situation.

No live or simulated ammunition is used.

The Institute for Childhood Preparedness plans to conduct training sessions this week in New Orleans, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Lafayette, and Baton Rouge.
