Some groups of St. James Parish residents are suing the parish to prevent construction of more petrochemical plants.
Members of Rise St. James, Inclusive Louisiana, and Mount Triumph Baptist Church filed suit on Tuesday in U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana.
The lawsuit demands a moratorium on petrochemical plants, claiming they violate civil rights, religious liberty, and environmental justice for the area's black communities.
