The Department of Transportation and Development has less than three-weeks left to draft its initial plan for a proposed passenger rail line connecting Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Lawmakers passed a law last year requiring DOTD to figure out the scope, schedule, and budget to secure all the approvals and permits needed to begin the rail service.

The law also says DOTD must provide the plans to the Joint Transportation Committee before the start of the legislative session on April 10.

The committee met Monday, but seemed unaware of the deadline until members of the Sierra Club asked them about it.
