A former counselor at Chalmette High School won't do jail time after entering a plea deal on Monday for a sex crime against a student.
Tommie Powell, III was accused of inappropriately touching a 16-year-old girl in 2018 and was indicted the following year for a felony count of indecent behavior with a juvenile.
Powell pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of sexual battery against a juvenile.
He was sentenced to two consecutive six-month terms, but the court suspended the sentence.
Powell also lost his counselor's license.
