Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is closing one of its two runways until next month for repairs.

The north-south runway was closed down on Monday and is scheduled to reopen on May 11.

Airport officials say the 18-day closure is for "safety maintenance work."

All arriving and departing aircraft will use the east-west runway until the contractors finish the repairs.

The airport says airline operations and flight schedules won't be affected but residents of Kenner can expect more aircraft noise.
