A state lawmaker is withdrawing a proposed bill that would enable schools to designate one or two employees as school protection officers.

Sen. Eddie Lambert says a similar law is already in place.

Current law doesn't allow teachers to carry guns on campuses but schools can hire armed security guards.

The Gonzales Republican says his idea was to allow properly trained teachers or other school employees to carry guns, and not just law enforcement.
