Orleans Parish voters overwhelmingly rejected a property tax hike on Saturday that Sheriff Susan Hutson had endorsed.

New Orleans voters clobbered a proposal to nearly double the rate of taxes dedicated to the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office for ten years.

On the Northshore, St. Tammany Parish voters also turned down a 20-year tax renewal proposal supported by parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston.

The measure would have provided the coroner's office with nearly $8 million a year from 2025 to 2044.
