Jefferson Parish deputies are investigating the shooting death of a five-year-old boy at a home in Avondale on Sunday.
Deputies responded around 7:30 p.m. to a hospital where the boy was suffering from a gunshot wound.
They learned at the hospital that the shooting had happened at a home on Helen Drive near South Jamie Boulevard.
The boy died later Sunday night.
Deputies are trying to figure out whether the shooting was accidental. They reportedly found a gun inside the home during their investigation.
