Baton Rouge, Hammond Students Named U.S. Presidential Scholars

A Hammond High Magnet School student is one of three from Louisiana to be named one of the 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholars.

The Tangipahoa Parish School System says Khalil McKnight is a senior in the Talented Visual Art program at Hammond High

The Foundation for the Advancement of Artists chose McKnight as a YoungArts Finalist, making him eligible for the U.S. Presidential Scholar list.

The other two outstanding Louisiana students are Daniel Liu of Baton Rouge Magnet High, and Anaya Bhatia of Caddo Parish Magnet High.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects scholars annually based on their academic success, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as a demonstrated commitment to community service and leadership.
