Residents of Lakeview are trying to get the city to do something about a house that's been vacant for 18 years.

The home on Vicksburg Street just off I-610 is a casualty of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The property is overgrown with weeds, the front door stands open, and possums breed in the place.

Neighbors have had two dozen meetings with city officials in the past 16 years.

City Councilman Joe Giarusso says code enforcement can't tear down a structure that's not an imminent danger, but he thinks the house qualifies.
