A bill banning sex-change procedures for minors in Louisiana may reach the governor's desk soon.

The Senate passed the bill on Monday by a mostly party-line vote of 29-10.

It would prohibit hormone treatments, puberty-blocking drugs, and sex-change surgery for children in Louisiana.

The measure next returns to the House, which has already passed it overwhelmingly, for approval of minor amendments.

Gov. John Bel Edwards opposes the bill, but hasn't said whether he plans to veto it.
