A state excise tax on nicotine vape products and e-cigarettes will triple after the end of this month.

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced on Wednesday that he signed a bill into law that hikes the tax on vapes from five cents per milliliter of nicotine solution to 15 cents.

The tax hike takes effect on July 1st.

House Bill 635 passed both the House and Senate with overwhelming support.

The tax increase is expected to generate another $10 million in revenue a year.

Most of it will help pay the salaries of the Louisiana State Police.
