A suspect who pleaded guilty to a violent carjacking at a New Orleans Costco is sentenced to 45 years in prison.

A judge sentenced 20-year-old Tyrese Harris in federal court on Tuesday.

In February 2022, Harris tried to drive away in realtor Kelleye Rhein's car as she was gassing up at the Costco. Rhein was dragged 50 feet and suffered serious injuries.

A year later, Harris pleaded guilty to conspiracy, carjacking, and weapons violations.

While running away from the carjacking attempt, he dropped a phone whose contents linked him to the killing of a 12-year-old. Harris faces a murder charge for that crime.
