The state of Louisiana has a new poet laureate.
Gov. John Bel Edwards and the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities announced Thursday that Covington native Alison Pelegrin will assume the title on August 14th.
Pelegrin is the Writer-in-Residence at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, and has published several collections of poetry.
She will serve as the state's Poet Laureate for the next two years.
