The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority is waiving bus fares next Tuesday in honor of civil rights pioneer Claudette Colvin.
The RTA Board of Commissioners has adopted a fare policy that honors Colvin on her birthday, which is September 5.
In the 1950s, 15-year-old Colvin was arrested after refusing to give up her seat on a bus -- nine-months before Rosa Parks made her similar stand.
The fare policy also honors Parks on her birthday of February 4.
