Mayor LaToya Cantrell has until Friday to terminate her Communications Director, Gregory Joseph.
The New Orleans City Council voted to remove Joseph on Tuesday.
The council claims he violated city policies by using public funds to mail flyers touting Cantrell's accomplishments during the effort to recall the mayor earlier this year.
The council accuses Joseph of gross misconduct, incompetence, and neglect of duty.
If Cantrell fails to remove him, a public hearing on October 3rd will determine whether Joseph will be fired.
