Hammond Police Chief Edwin Bergeron is facing calls for his resignation after a possibly illegal investigation of an officer-involved shooting.

The Hammond Police Department lacks certification from the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council, so it's against state law for them to investigate officer-involved shootings in their own agency.

Hammond police officers shot and wounded suspected fentanyl dealer Lionell Jackson at his home in July.

The Hammond PD investigated the shooting instead of contacting an outside agency.
