The New Orleans mayor's spokesperson is off the job.

The City Council unanimously agreed to suspend Communications Director Gregory Joseph earlier today following a six-month ethics investigation into his suspected misuse of taxpayer money.

He is accused of using the fund to pay for a mailer to promote Mayor LaToya Cantrell's efforts.

Council members voted to terminate Joseph last month, but Cantrell spoke out against it.

Joseph will be suspended without pay for the remainder of the mayor's term, which will end in January of 2026.

Cantrell said she was "extremely disappointed" with the Council's decision.

""It is deplorable that, once again, the New Orleans City Council has used their power to publicly humiliate those making daily sacrifices to advance this city rather than using their power to actually legislate and move this city forward," she added.
