The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said Wednesday there was no timeline on reopening I-55 near Lake Maurepas.
DOTD continued to conduct inspections on a stretch of the interstate that saw multiple crashes Monday in an area that experienced a combination of heavy fog and smoke from marsh fires, limiting visibility.

"The extent of the damage and the possible repairs needed are not known at this time. In the small areas where visual inspections have taken place, spalling related to the heat from the fires has been found," the department said in a press release.
Officials are also using specialized equipment, including ground-penetrating radar, as part of the inspections.
Louisiana State Police said the death toll from Monday's deadly crashes has risen to eight.
